We love babies at Canaland!
We are licensed to care for babies beginning at 6 weeks old. The Infant Nursery Department enrolls children ages 6 weeks to one year. In the nursery, children get one-on-one time with their caregiver as much as possible. They have tummy time, play time with friends, and stories read to them throughout the day, as they remain on their individual napping and feeding schedule. When it’s warm enough, they love going for walks outside and playing in our infant/toddler outdoor playground. The ratio of staff to child is 1:4, which can seem like a lot, but if it’s needed, help is always a button push away!
Infant parents provide the following for their baby:
Diapers
Wipes
Diaper Cream
Bottles
Extra supply of clothes that fit the baby (note: this might need to be checked often as the baby grows)
Refrigerated or frozen pumped breast milk
Formula (if you prefer one other than Canaland provides)
Baby food (if you prefer one other than Canaland provides)
Pacifier
Special blanket, or comfort toy, if you'd like (not used at nap time until they are over the age of one)
We always keep a little extra of these items on hand in case your child runs out, but we will let parents know when items are running low so they can bring them in ahead of time.
Items Canaland provides for the babies:
Formula
Baby Food & feeding items (bibs, utensils, etc.)
Rice Cereal
Burp Cloths
Sippy Cups
Blankets
Toys, teethers, baby seats, swings, and jumpers
Crib & crib sheets
Our nursery is set up with Procare’s Parent Engagement, an app where you will receive updates, reminders, and pictures of your little one throughout your child’s day!
We have gone paperless and have replaced daily paper slips with the parent engagement app.
Canaland is a certified breastfeeding friendly childcare center!
The Canaland Nursery staff encourages moms whose children are enrolled at Canaland to come to the nursery throughout the day, at any time of day, to breastfeed their child. We have a private breastfeeding area in our nursery, with privacy curtains and a comfortable chair.
Canaland works in collaboration with the Portage County Breastfeeding Coalition. Anytime you need advice or direction, we can refer you to people who can help. Regular trainings and classes will be posted for our information. We also provide resources available to parents and expecting parents that will help to educate and encourage breastfeeding whenever possible.
Whatever your decision is, Canaland’s Nursery department supports you. We know that breastfeeding is not an option for all, but when it is, we want to do our best to accommodate you.
